[Internet] Sick of Rogers up-sell false information

Got several calls from Rogers outbound and I answered two of them. Both calls claimed that I am on a legacy plan and the new offer is going to offer me better speed plus TV service a bonus. When I answered the first call I thought I was still on the 500 (or 250?) plan. However after I declined it I checked and I am currently on the Gigabit plan. Anyway, the second call today told me the same thing today that I am on the 150 (?). I asked her if she's sure that I am on 150. She double checked and realized I am on the Gigabit. Then she said she can still offer me the deal but of course it is going to be more expensive than what I am paying now, since it includes the TV service. She claimed that I will be getting a new modem and I will be getting faster speed with no disconnection. lol I knew that's not true so I asked her how is the offer going to be better if I need to pay more. She said because the new plan is Ignite. I said so that's just the name and they both say Gigabit. She then said I will be getting a new modem, so I asked what's the difference between the modems. She replied with something about my current modem only has two XXXXXXX (couldn't catch the term, something I have never heard of) and the new one got 16. It also offers better wifi. After I have declined her offer and hung up, I double checked my current internet package name. It's the same as the in-market one, except the rep said "Gigabyte" instead of "Gigabit". I am posting hoping that other customers are aware of tricks that the reps may put on customers. For a regular customer one may fall into those false statements.

NHL Live buffering

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this into but... The constant buffering is making us regret subscribing to this service. Using the android app called NHL (GameCenter) Live to cast to various chromecasts (2gen & ultra) - it's constantly buffering. It'll run fine for as much as couple of hours and then start buffering in the third period and quickly become unresponsive/unwatchable. Restarting doesn't help. It's the only streaming service we have that behaves in this manner. Other services never buffer and can be used for hours on end. Is this a known issue with the chromecast? Looking at the app settings, there doesn't seem to be any streaming/playback settings to tweak. I'm considering cancellation as it not's my idea of a good time to watch games on the phone when I have 4k TV staring at me... Any advice is appreciated.

Stopping forced band steering?

Hi, I have Rogers 150 internet with a Hitron CGN3ACSMR modem in a three-storey house. Initially I didn't get the best speeds and pings (typically 50-70 Mbps and ~20 ms) when using the 2.4 GHz connection from the modem on the first floor to my desktop on the third floor, but made it great on the 5 GHz connection (100-300 Mbps and 10-15 ms). The problem is Rogers has started injecting traffic into my web browsing and insisting that they update my firmware settings every week and turn on band steering. I know how to turn it off, but is there any way to stop them from changing my settings? Thanks!

Internet cuts out very frequently

So I’ve been with Rogers for over 10 years. I’ve had consistent issues throughout this time. I’ve dealt with it since there was no one else to go to as far as speed. Bell offers me 5 down which isn’t worth it for me. Start.ca is installing fibre to the home in my neighbourhood. They’re offering me 1000 down 50 up for $50 a month. My issue is my speeds are fine when I do a speedtest although day to day it cuts out frequently. I’d be on YouTube/Facebook and it would start buffering. What can I do at this point Rogers tells me it’s my third party router when it’s not as this has been an on going issue for 10 years. Every call they make me unplug my router and tell me it’s the cause. I actually gave it a shot and used the built in CODA and the issue still happened. I’ve had techs at my house every month and all they do is switch the modem or tell me it’s all okay. My neighbour next door doesn’t have internet issues like I do. He even mentioned when he’s over our internet is really bad compared to his. We‘ve “senior” techs out as well and they say it’s a bad line outside and when they send another guy over all they do is replace the modem. I feel like I’m going in circles at this point. Tech support are useless as they only want to troubleshoot and turn off my router. Techs only swap the modem. The only reason I don’t want to switch is because I pay 29.95 after tax for 500 down 20 up. My hardware ASUS AC68U Router

Ignite internet with own router/wifi network

I have been on Rogers 250/20 "Ultimate" service for years with the Hitron CGN3 gateway. It is in bridge mode as I use a Ubiquiti Unifi USG as my modem and I have several UAPs throughout my house for wifi. I also have a few dozen wired devices. I have traditional cable with older Rogers SA boxes that I record to a media server using SageTV. I am not interested in changing to IgniteTV for the time being. I would like to upgrade to faster internet but I don't want to use a Rogers device as a Router. What are my options?

[Internet] Fibre-Powered from Rogers

In my Mailbox today I received notice from Rogers that work will start within 2 weeks on FTTH. Also observed that all the lawns on my street had markers from Gas etc ...... so looks like Rogers has beaten Bell in getting Fiber to my street first. Will soon find out if its PON or RFoG Now I am actually wondering if Bell will lay down their Fiber in Parallel in the Spring? :-)

Installing Moca with Rogers ignite

Hi guys, I am in a new build townhouse that was completed in August 2019 near Ottawa. I have access to Gigabit Rogers and also have access to Bell Fibe. I would like to install a Moca system in my house to wire the basement devices. I took a picture of the networking setup I am a bit confused because this appears to be optical internet. I called Rogers and spoke to a couple of tech's and they told me that this was not the Roger's line coming into the house and that it must be the bell setup. However, when I pulled out the Arris power plug my Rogers internet shut off. As you can see I have black tubing with the small orange and blue wire coming from the outside. This plugs into the arris networking device and then goes to the adapter into the wall and goes to the splitter. The two coax from the splitter are going into the wall and I assume goes throughout the house, as I have coax in bedrooms upstairs and main floor. So is this small orange cable bringing in my rogers and my bell internet? The Rogers phone support said this was impossible and that I must have a single coax bringing in my rogers cable internet. I am fairly decent with tech stuff generally and can usually troubleshoot well, but don't have a lot of knowledge on networking hardware. I was trying to figure out where to put Moca filter (if this is necessary) and also whether I could run a third coax cable from that splitter to go into a Moca adapter and then run a 30 foot cat 6 cable to a splitter to plug into my TV, XBOX, and PC in the basement as I have no other coax outlets in basement for Moca. My modem is an Arris XB6 and is currently plugged into the coax on main floor. Thanks

I just received my Rogers Bill and I noticed a message at the following message on the bottom: "Occasionally, we make changes to our channel offerings to reflect the evolving viewership trends of our customers. Starting January 1, 2020, AMC will no longer be available as part of your TV package. If you pay a separate monthly service fee for this channel, you will no longer see this charge on your bill as of this date. We understand that a change like this can be frustrating and we apologize for the inconvenience. The rest of your Rogers TV package will remain the same. If you have any questions or wish to change or cancel your Rogers services, please reach out to us in any of the ways listed in the Contact Us section of this bill." I am on the Digital TV Popular package.

Possible to use Ignite tv with my own router?

I currently have rogers tv and internet. Soon I’ll be getting a switch over to rogers Ignite tv and internet. I wish to use my ac68u router Wifi and put the Ignite modem in bridge mode. Rogers’ support site reads: If Ignite TV is connected to the Rogers Ignite Modem via WiFi, bridging your modem will disconnect your Ignite TV service.” What should I tell the install tech to ensure I won’t have any issues?

[Internet] Fido home internet - modem performance in bridge mode

$

I got Fido cable (150mbps) about a week ago. They gave me a Hitron Coda-458 modem. My preference would be to bridge the modem and use my own router, but.... When I do this, the speed of my connection drops dramatically. I repeated the following experiment a number of times and always get the same result: Scenario 1: Modem in gateway mode. Router plugged to modem (NAT). Computer plugged to router (yes, double NAT) --> speed over 200 mbps Scenario 2: Modem in bridge mode. Router plugged to modem (gets public IP, obviously). Computer plugged to router (NAT) --> speed under 100 mbps The above speed readouts are reliable, as I get them not only from speed tests, but from actual ftp downloads as well. Really not sure what to make of it. Has anyone else seen this kind of behaviour?

Very high downstream signal strength, unreliable connection

Last month or so been having a ton of internet issues. Stops responding for 10mins - 1 hour a few times a day. Tech is sent out when connection is fine and can not see any issue... Sometimes my modem will show the blue arrows while it isn't responding (or parts of a page will load half, other times complete disconnect). When I unplug the modem and plug it back in, it then will just show green up/down arrows until it decides to start working again. Been doing some research and have seen ideally you want a signal strength of 0 and as high as +10. I am right at that maximum and even a little above. Where should I go from here? This is a 500U FTTH connection on a fairly new build.

Hey guys, Been searching around and can't find any updates on Docsis 3.1 upstream. Do we know what the status of this is and when it will be live? Last I heard it was supposed to come some time in 2019 but obviously that didn't happen.

[Internet] should I switch to rogers fiber FTTH?

$

Rogers already laid the fibers cable to the side of house and was told FTTH is available now. I have no idea what kind of FTTH it is, should I expect it is same as Bell's FTTH ( I like high speed uploading) ? or just consider it 's another type of FTTN? now I am using Fido 150M cable internet, it's not stable , crowded at rush hours, sometimes, only have 3~5M upload speed. I also tried Bell before. Bell only provides 50M maximum speed in my area, but it's always so stable, guarantee the promised speed all time. should I switch current Rogers cox internet to Rogers fiber ? Rogers is more expensive than Fido, but if fiber is more stable, guarantee the speed all time or have better upload speed, price difference is also acceptable. thanks for suggestions

Tried to hook up 2nd router (pfSense) to my bridged CODA modem, failed to get the WAN IP address, I thought Rogers would give us max 2 Public IPs. not any more? The first one (also PfSense) was hooked up at Port 4, Tried to hook up the 2nd one at Port 1, failed. Rebooted the modern and router, no help.

Rogers and Bell interconnect - bandwidth limited?

Hey, So my folks have Bell FTTH at their house - works great, get the 1 Gbps symmetrical. Speedtest is good and real-world testing is good. I live in a newer condo with Rogers Fibre/Coax on the 500/30 package. Same deal, speed testing and real world shows I get the correct speeds. I noticed something unusual though. I setup an iperf server at folks and ran the client from my condo. Seems the speed is capped at exactly 22.0 Mbits/sec. Running the iperf test from work I get a much better rate, pretty much maxes out our link (400 Mbits/sec+) The traceroute from condo to Bell 1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms hitronhub.home [192.168.0.1] 2 101 ms 54 ms 42 ms 99.241.46.1 3 63 ms 76 ms 65 ms 8083-dgw02.ym.rmgt.net.rogers.com [69.63.254.69] 4 75 ms 64 ms 76 ms 3033-cgw01.bloor.rmgt.net.rogers.com [209.148.232.77] 5 61 ms 72 ms 64 ms 209.148.235.210 6 78 ms 53 ms 83 ms bx5-torontoxn_ae2.net.bell.ca [184.150.158.204] 7 77 ms 58 ms 76 ms tcore1-torontoxn_ae13.net.bell.ca [64.230.52.228] 8 79 ms 55 ms 79 ms tcore3-toronto63_bundle-ether28.net.bell.ca [64.230.51.153] 9 60 ms 77 ms 111 ms dis71-toronto63_5-1-0.net.bell.ca [64.230.101.125] 10 * * * Request timed out. 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 13 ms 11 ms 9 ms - redacted - I'm wondering if the connection between 209.148.235.210 & 184.150.158.204 is saturated?
