[Modem/Router] CODA-4582 vs CGN3ACSMR, which is the better modem?
Recently switched back to Rogers from Bell cause their plans just give way less for the same cost (and there's no bell fiber in my area, was stuck at 30mbps). They gave me a CGN3 gateway which I swapped for the CGN3ACSMR after being talked out of swapping for the CODA-4582 by phone support. They said that people get a ton of issues with the CODA gateway and that the rocket ac modem is better right now. Was wondering how true that is, is the CGN3ACSMR really better than the CODA4582? I had the 4582 before and was getting 300-900mbps with my 150u plan. Currently getting 180-200mbps on the CGN3ACSMR with the same plan (as a new subscription but same house).
The tech who came to install the modem also said the Rocket AC modem is better than the CODA modem (he also set up old used explorer boxes and told me they were 4k, had to bring them back to the rogers store to exchange for actual unused 4k nextboxes so I'm not sure how much I can trust his opinion..). Also asked on the rogers reddit, a tech commented there too and also said the CGN3ACSMR Rocket AC modem was better than the CODA-4582 https://www.reddit.com/r/Rogers/comments/9z833w/coda4582_vs_cgn3acsmr_which_is_the_better_modem/ea71ogo/?context=3 "Im a tech but its only my personal opinion, the AC is a better modem. The Coda just has firmware issues or something, alot of us talk about it and its beyond our scope to resolve alot of common issues with them."

[Internet] Rogers will not move my account back to the 1Gbit/50Mbps Up
So as has happened a few other times I suspect. I contacted Rogers to renew my 1Gbit/50Mbps internet pack and was very very very very specific (I had the logs sent to me) that I will not renew at the newly negotiated price unless the 1Gbit/50Mbps is kept intact, agreed on both ends - done !!!!
Nope, account now shows 30Mbps upload (confirmed tonight by Rogers) which is almost half and messes up any streaming that I provide to the rest of my family with speeds that slow. (I had no issue maxing out 50Mbps upload consistent previously and makes a huge difference streaming and uploading (no I don't torrent)). So I've spent the last 2 hours online with 5 different agents, customer care, customer service, technical support twice, probably another dept.
What grinds my gears to no end is that had I not called to renew my existing contract, I could have (and in fact I did for the first couple weeks) continued with my existing speeds 1Gbit/50Mbps but of course at a ridiculous rate...so when these agents tonight say that it's not available any longer.....bull, just what they have authority to view on their systems I'm sure.
The whole reason I called was to negotiate my existing services, that's the whole point of it for F sakes and I was very very very very clearly informed that it would not change.
Good Job Rogers. Get yer sh*t together.

[Modem/Router] Rogers Modem/Router Hiltron CGN3 without suffix
Hi - I have been using Rogers Hiltron CGN3 for the past few months. My parents have the same modem within the same apartment building. We both have CFS (25/1 Mbps). My modem, the DS and US LEDs have been always blue from day one and still are. The same LEDs at my parents' were also always blue, too, until today, the US LED turn solid green while the DS remained blue - did not revert to blue even after rebooting the modem. I read the information in the manual, but I don't really understand what it means. My parents didn't change anything nor added anything. I do have a couple of (hardwired) devices connected to LAN ports, so do they. The only difference is they're Ooma subscriber which I'm not. The Internet service as well as Ooma's seems to be uninterpreted despite the color changing, although this morning my mom complained she was able to dial out but no calls were coming in, that's when she noticed the LED change from solid blue to solid green.
Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

Already have gigabit / ignite tv in the area. Any idea what new could be coming ?

[Internet] Ordered 150d service, rep says premises not yet wired
A friend of mine is moving into a new apt and asked me to look at internet for her. I called in to order 150d service and while the rep put the order through, he did advise me that an installer would be required because apparently the apt is "not yet wired". That's just how he worded it.
Now, hopefully, this is just basic work that needs to be done to get it up and running and not something major that would prevent it from getting it installed. This is a fairly new building.
I know this is super vague information but does anyone know if this should be something difficult?
I asked other ISPs before contacting Rogers and they said they couldn't service this building because of it being fibre.

Ignite Internet not working on ChromeOS?
Recently switched to ignite internet (With ignite TV) from the cable service. Now my Chromebox, running Chrome OS, won't load web pages (can connect to WiFi however). Rogers tech came in and said the ignite service must not support my machine which doesn't make sense to me. Internet works on all my other devices just not chromebox.
Has anyone else encountered the same problem? Possibly on a chromebook?

Does Ignite TV require Rogers internet?
Now, my question may sound silly, and it probably is, but anyway...
Does Rogers Ignite TV require that I get Internet from Rogers? Seeing as how you can get IPTV from Bell w/o Bell internet
Can Rogers do the Bell thing where you get TV + like 500MB internet so it runs while you get internet from any other company?
Or are they forcing you to use their internet with Ignite TV?
I'd rather have IgniteTV + TSI internet tbh

[Internet] Service installed yesterday. Modem keeps losing connection
Modem CGN3ACR
Software 4.5.8.38T5
I just had 150/15 service installed yesterday and there seems to be an odd issue with the modem just losing sync.
It is in an apartment and the building is fiber so the installer had to come in and install equipment. He seemed to make sure everything was ok before leaving. The speedtests he had me do on my phone showed full speeds. Unfortunately, we were very busy this day so once the installer left, we weren't home all day and didn't use the internet until the evening when we came back.
After finally having some time to go into the router config and trying to setup some settings like wireless ssids, etc. I noticed the modem kept losing sync almost every 10 minutes. The lights that were supposed to blue kept shutting off and then tried to re-sync but it would take almost another 10 minutes to reconnect. I even tried resetting the modem with similar results.
After just leaving it alone for a bit, for some reason, it retained sync for at least 4 hours. I went to bed. Got up this morning and checked WAN up time was back to 10 minutes so it must have lost sync again.
The installer did put in a three way splitter in the box where the lines come in. He only used two of the lines in the splitter out of the three.
I'll post the following from the DOCSIS WAN page and the Events page and see what you guys think. Thanks

[Internet] Router dead or did Rogers mess up the modem firmware?
I have a Netgear R7000 running XVortex firmware which has been (mostly) good with my CODA 4582U in bridge mode. I say mostly because recently I need the occasional reboot.
Today, my router displayed the error "Your ISPs DHCP does not function properly" and would no longer connect to the internet. Factory resetting both the router and the CODA did not work. The CODA does work on its own, so I'm leaning toward a failure of the router, though I haven't discounted the possibility that 2.0.10.36T6 may have broken something.
If anyone is experiencing similar issues with 36T6 I'd appreciate hearing about them before I give up and get a mesh system.
Thanks.

[TV] Changes to Digital Cable Packages
Effective Dec. 4, 2018 Rogers has made changes to their Select, Popular, and Premier digital TV packages. Here are a few observations based on my preliminary exploration of what is now offered.
1. All Sportsnet and TSN stations have been removed from all packages. Anyone wishing to subscribe to these must now do so as a standalone or in a Theme Pack. One theme pack which includes all Sportsnet channels and TSN channels is priced at $25 per month.
2. American news channels like CNN and HLN have also been removed from all packages. There is now an American News theme pack for $10 a month. Oddly, Fox News is now standard with the Popular and Premiere packages.
3. Canadian news channels like CBC News, CTV News, and CP24 have also been removed from all packages. The Canadian News theme pack is priced at $5 per month.
4. Popular channels like AMC, TLC, and HGTV have been removed from all packages and again are only available as standalone channels or in a theme pack while more obscure channels like BookTelevision are now included with all packages.
What Rogers is thinking with these changes is beyond me. The explanation offered on the Rogers forum is that these changes were made to meet the changing needs of customers. Anyone with half a brain would realize that this is complete rubbish.

[Internet] Upload speed
Any chance we will see an increase in upload speed in the future?. 30 Mbps is ok for average users but is inadequate for power users.

Can someone look at my modem connection stats?
Having a lot of frozen data issues for 20 minutes at a time, then it goes back to normal and stops working again.
No actual disconnect from the modem but something on the other end is not doing its job.
The CSR had me get a new box (probably not the issue) and speeds are much much worse than before on the 500U, and CSR said he was seeing a less than good noise result in the area. Connected to ethernet seeing speeds of maybe 50. Used to be getting close to advertised almost all the time. Something is definitely up considering the lockups the last couple days.
How does my connection look in the pictures?
Thank you

[Internet] Swapped from Hitron CGN to Hitron CODA-4582
Looks like all is well from switching modems, not that there was any issues beforehand but im noticing the upload is no longer 50? Did Rogers reduce the profile from 1000/50 to 1000/30?

I believe FTTH isn't available on Rogers yet right? For gaming, I want the best ping I can possibily get, meaning Bell FTTH is my only option?

Testing connection stability for the Coda-4582U?
I recently upgraded my Rogers internet plan to the 150 down option and was given the option to use the CODA-4582U. I was originally using the CGN3ACSMR and was having high pings in general but it was mostly attributed to my location. Pings seem roughly the same on the CODA-4582U, however I've only had it for a day or so and I've read a lot of people were having issues with it so I do have some concerns before I return my CGN3ACSMR I'd like to have some metric to decide on which modem I should actually keep.
I'm primarily concerned with ping and connection stability since I'm most interested in gaming/streaming.
I tried to do a speedtest here, http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest , however I haven't been able to actually get results from it because during the download phase of the test the bufferbloat reaches ~+1000ms and during the upload section I get the following error:
"During upload the measured speed went to zero and stayed there error:1
The test noticed that uploading stopped. Here are some possible causes:
1. Connection drop during upload.
2. Very large upload buffering. Check "Staged Uploads", in the https://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/preferences. This will use increasingly large single uploads to determine the speed. Or change the upload method to 'web socket'.
3. Your connection is very poor. So poor that packet loss is causing many halts. Please review the ping radar plot by location. Is the ping time reasonable, both "best" and "worst"?
4. An Anti-virus product or browser extension is stalling or buffering the upload. Disable the most likely product, restart the browser, try again. Sophos AV, among others, are known to buffer all uploads (see explanation 2)."
Through general use so far, browsing and watching streams, the internet FEELS fine however based on that test above and the amount of concerns I've read about the modem I'd like to have some kind of metric to know that the modem will be reliable because I know if I were to return the CGN3ACSMR I likely would not be able to get it back. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

[Internet] Rogers blocking youtube on wireless if you use it too much
What is Rogers doing? I paid my money to remove ads on youtube so I use it more. Now Rogers is blocking youtube on wireless if you use it too much. Is this because of the Christmas holidays or are they going to keep on doing it? I don't really want to hook another router up just to get youtube wireless. Everything else wireless works.

[Wireless] Need help picking a smart phone
Hi guys, I never owned a smart phone before. My only cell phone is the one you get at a Rogers store for the 'Pay as you go' plan. I'm still using the ZTE z222 flip phone that they gave me.
Since I recently purchased a Fitbit Charge 3, it seems to rely on an app that is connected to the Android phone. I guess it wants to use the GPS for some of the features.
Clearly the ZTE phone can not run any apps, I am starting to look around for something that can but have no clue what I should be looking for.
I would like to use the Rogers LTE network with my current 'Pay As You Go' plan, so the phone would have to be an unlocked model. It would be very handy if the phone can receive the Alert Ready messages. Bluetooth, GPS and 802.11n or what ever is a must.
I plan to use some social media apps on it, like facebook, twitter and instagram (minimal since most social media would be done on my home PC). Main uses are SMS and phone calls. I don't care about the camera quality since I have an expensive camera at home but something portable would be handy.
Price would have to be reasonable, nothing to expensive.
I did see the Samsung J3 (2018) https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/samsung-galaxy-j3-2018-16gb-black-unlocked/13018577.aspx? but I have no idea if that would be enough for me performance wise. I don't plan to do any gaming at all.
So besides using the Fitbit, Preva, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and The Weather Network app, with the occasional SMS and voice call, that's about all I would do with this phone.
I'd assume I would have to get a new SIM card because my current one might be too big in size.
