Hi folks! When I got the gigamodem installed, i hooked up a laptop and did a speedtest website (not the test on this site), got around 300. Setup the cable modem into bridged mode, attached it to my router. Same speeds. I called to complain. The tech pushed the most recent firmware as a possible solution. This did not make any difference. A visit was scheduled and as far as we know, the tech changed all the connectors (re-crimped them) to cables coming in from the street. Again no difference in the speeds. The model of the modem is the Hitron CODA-4582U and the router being used is Asus RT-AC-56u. I would love to get to the bottom of this issue. I am happy to run further tests, post screenshots, etc. Many thanks.

Buying a Cable modem off Kijiji
Hi,
Looking to buy a Roger's modem off Kijiji. Anyone have any experience here?
Would it work out of the box on the Roger's network? If not, how do you get Roger's to enable it?
Thanks

[Internet] Is Port forwarding on port 80 and 443 possible?
By the look of it, it seems both port 80 and 443 are filtered by Rogers while 22 is ok.
As I wanted to selfhost some applications, I wanted to confirm whether Rogers filter these two incoming ports.
I can understand why but it is still annoying when you want to test things.
Can somebody confirm?

[Internet] If current infrastructure does not allow to install Internet?
I would like to have Internet at my detached home but cable below my driveway is old and needs to be replaced. Can I still have cable internet? The previous Rogers tech suggested installing a temporary line, but would I be charged an extra fee? How long it will take to bury the line and install a permanent one as at Guelph there is a need to get a permit to do any subterranean work? In addition, inside my home also coaxial cable connections need to be replaced, how much it might cost to install inside wiring or plug in my basement for the cable modem. Please let me know what are my options and what it will take to have a new cable line installed? Thank you

[Internet] IPv6 Port Blcoking
Does Rogers block any incoming IPv6 ports?
I am trying to allow port 80 and 443 as well as port 22 to my server but hosts on IPv6 cannot connect.
Hosts on IPv4 can connect fine.
Thanks

Is Rogers blocking VoIP on their cellular network?
Hi,
I have cell phone service from Rogers. Over the last year or so, I noticed that I'm unable to use my VoIP service on Rogers network. I use voip.ms with Zoiper app on my iPhone. Everything works fine when I'm roaming on other cell networks (tried in US and UK this year). It's only Rogers cell network that makes it impossible to use VoIP. When I turn on my VPN, then it starts working right away. So it really looks to me like Rogers is blocking something.
The effect is that once the VoIP connection is established, I either cannot hear the other party, or we both cannot hear each other. Turning on VPN solves it right away. I tried to play around with some settings like STUN server and codes, but it is all the same.
Anybody has similar experience with Rogers? Is it possible they indeed block VoIP services? Or something else is causing it?
Thanks.

[Internet] Rogers throttling Google Drive?
I use to be on Bell Fibe 300 and was able to download at full speed on Google Drive. I recently joined Rogers 500U and I noticed the download speeds seem to be throttled. When I upload, I can hit the max of 20mbps. However, when I download, I am only doing about 6.4mbps. Does anyone else have this issue with Rogers?

Rogers still compressing cable?
Just wondering if they still compress. Picture looks way better than the past on TV. I often switch to OTA for sports as quality is better - but now cable quality looks the same to me.

I upgraded to the gigabit connection. I was getting 325Mb download speed and 20Mb upload speed before the upgrade and now i'm getting only 50Mb download and 30Mb upload. Did I do something wrong? I'm wired directly to the modem.

Experiencing mini disconnects all day, Scarborough
Can someone check out my modem stats please? For the two weeks ever since the initial install I get mini-disconnects every so often but today they're as frequent as every 15 minutes to half an hour or so. They sometimes last less than a minute, but a few times they have lasted many minutes. Reboots sometimes fixed it, but that might just be coincidence.
Early on after my initial installation a couple of weeks ago, my signal levels were a bit lower with higher signal to noise ratio, but now it seems my signal levels are higher (albeit all still under 10 dB downstream), with my SNR significantly worse. It seems I've gained about 3-4 dB across the board for whatever reason, with a concomitant decrease in my SNR. My modem’s log indicates a lot of “Lost MDD Timeout” errors.
My house is connected to the utility pole via RG11 due to insufficient signal in previous years (for Digital TV), but my TV was fine after that. I'd been on Bell TV for the last couple of years though, so I don't know how Rogers' lines have behaved in the interim.
The signal is split at the box (by Rogers - I didn't touch it), with one line going to my basement and one line to my converted garage/home theatre. TV in the garage/home theatre has been fine, although I haven't tried it today. That one line to my basement is further split so one line goes to the Hitron CODA-4582U modem and the other line feeds the TV in the rest of the house.
BTW, I’m on Gigabit but I don’t really care about Gigabit. I’d much rather have a stable 300 than a flaky 1000.

[Home Phone] Rogers Home Phone modem: Frequency band and how to check stats?
I’m curious. What frequency (or frequencies) does Rogers Home Phone modem use and for those with one of the standalone modems, how do you check its line stats?
Do the signal requirements for Home Phone modems mirror the signal requirements for Ignite Internet modems? ie. Up to +/-10 dB downstream with >35 dB SNR?

Rogers doesn't offer slow packages anymore?
So I looked at Rogers' website today, and I noticed that the cheaper package they offer is 75Mbps down for $70. What happened to the cheaper packages? Are they truly gone?
Also, there is no 500Mbps anymore. It was replaced by 300Mbps.
Here is screenshot:

When did that happened? I have not seen this mentioned anywhere.

How to fix bufferbloat on CODA-4582
Since I upgraded my connection to 150Mbps package, I get horrible bufferbloat every time one of my computers downloads large files (say, Steam downloading a game). When I try http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest I see bufferbloat of more than 1000ms when the download test runs (zero bufferbloat with upload test though).
Is this "normal" for Rogers Internet on this modem? Can I do anything to fix this?
I never had this problem on old Technicolor modems with 30Mbps speeds.
My router is a Linux box. I tried to play around with changing my queuing method from pfifo_fast to fq_codel, but it didn't help. Any other suggestions people have that I should try?

[Internet] With a CODA-4582U, is 500/20 more stable than Gigabit/30?
Hello people. I'm on a Hitron CODA-4582U with Ignite Gigabit internet. I had some fluctuation in the signal levels (that Rogers support said was normal), but on some occasions when the fluctuation gets extreme, the modem gets glitchy, and loses the internet connection. The modem thinks it's connected, but no clients can access the net, including if the clients are directly plugged into the modem. A reboot immediately would fix this.
I'm curious, does downgrading the plan change things with the modem? IOW, are the parameters used for 500/20 be less stressful on the modem? How about 300/20? Or is there no significant difference in terms of modem stability?
If it makes no difference I'd stick with Gigabit/30 and see how it goes (now that I have a new 36T6 firmware, as Rogers upgraded me from 33T3 just a few days ago), but if say 500/20 were less glitchy on these modems, I'd consider asking them to downgrade me even if it didn't change my pricing. In fact, I'd be happy with 300+.

Signal Strength
My neighbour was having cable issues and they couldn't trace the line so they asked if they run a temp from mine to their house. I am fine for a few months until the ground thaws but I noticed some pixelation today and slow internet speeds. Check the signal strength on my TV box and was at -11. This is my modem. They were never this bad before but where should they be? I called in and they confirmed signal not good and sending somebody out. Not sure what options I have but do not want anybody messing with my wiring inside (have one cable going in) and everything done neatly. Was for last 12 years.
Bit of a pain as I now need to make myself available for a problem they caused.
