[Internet] Very slow speeds

$

Anyone else in the Toronto/Downsview area having really slow internet speeds? I just recently signed up for Rogers 1 Gigabit promotion they had, as much as I did not want to, but with the amount of people using the internet at home, I had to increase it and switch to Rogers. It started out okay, pretty much got the speeds advertised ~900 Megabits down and 30 up. But today, which was what I was afraid would happen, my speeds are at ~25 Megabits down and can hardly get any upload speed going on Speedtest.net. I am directly connected to the Hiton Coda-4582 and tried restarting the Modem already. Luckily I still have not cancelled my DSL line with Start. This is just the 2nd week into having Gigabit service, and I have 30 days from time of purchase to cancel if I am not satisfied, so another 2 weeks or so before I commit.

[Internet] Rogers Gigabit - Only getting 250mbps

Helo DSL Report Gurus, I recently moved (sold my soul) from TekSavvy 150 to Rogers 1Gbps/30mbps for a deal I could not pass up. However using the same coaxial outlet that my TSI modem was in I am only getting speeds of 200-290mbps down and a solid 33 up. I am seeking advice on how I can improve my speeds. I have a feeling it may be one of the following factors: -I live in rowhouses/townhouses but based off the wifi names its 80% bell users. -The coax port comes 'from' the wall, its not a faceplate this leads me to believe someone may have pulled it and I am unaware if this is the shortest run or not. All the other coax that is on a wall plate does not work with the modem. My setup is as follows: Coax > CODA-4582U > Cat6 (50ft) > WatchGuard T10 > Cat5 (2ft) > Cisco SG-300 > Devices Speeds are 200-290mbps Tested as well: Coax > CODA-4582U > Cat6 (3ft) > Laptop Speeds are around 320mbps Modem: CODA-4582U (in bridged mode) Hardware Version 1A Software Version 2.0.10.28T2 Modem Stats: Downstream Overview Port ID Frequency (MHz) Modulation Signal strength (dBmV) Channel ID Signal noise ratio (dB) 1 591000000 256QAM 4.100 7 40.366 2 855000000 256QAM -1.100 3 38.983 3 861000000 256QAM -1.600 4 38.605 4 579000000 256QAM 3.900 5 40.946 5 585000000 256QAM 3.900 6 40.366 6 849000000 256QAM 0.000 2 40.366 7 597000000 256QAM 3.700 8 40.366 8 603000000 256QAM 3.400 9 40.946 9 609000000 256QAM 4.000 10 40.946 10 615000000 256QAM 3.800 11 40.366 11 621000000 256QAM 3.800 12 40.946 12 633000000 256QAM 3.800 13 40.366 13 639000000 256QAM 3.800 14 40.366 14 645000000 256QAM 4.200 15 40.366 15 651000000 256QAM 3.700 16 40.366 16 657000000 256QAM 3.700 17 40.366 17 663000000 256QAM 4.100 18 40.946 18 669000000 256QAM 3.700 19 40.366 19 675000000 256QAM 3.400 20 40.946 20 681000000 256QAM 3.500 21 40.946 21 687000000 256QAM 3.100 22 40.366 22 693000000 256QAM 2.700 23 40.366 23 699000000 256QAM 2.700 24 40.946 24 705000000 256QAM 1.800 25 40.366 25 711000000 256QAM 1.900 26 40.366 26 717000000 256QAM 1.900 27 40.366 27 723000000 256QAM 1.500 28 40.366 28 825000000 256QAM -1.100 29 38.983 29 831000000 256QAM -1.000 30 38.605 30 837000000 256QAM -1.300 31 38.983 31 843000000 256QAM -1.500 32 38.983 32 303000000 256QAM 4.100 1 40.366 OFDM Downstream Overview Receiver FFT type Subcarr 0 Frequency(MHz) PLC locked NCP locked MDC1 locked PLC power(dBmv) 0 4K 275600000 YES YES YES 3.900002 1 NA NA NO NO NO NA Upstream Overview Port ID Frequency (MHz) Modulation Signal strength (dBmV) Channel ID Bandwidth 1 38596000 ATDMA - 64QAM 34.500 3 3200000 2 30596000 ATDMA - 64QAM 31.500 1 6400000 3 23700000 ATDMA - 64QAM 31.500 2 6400000 OFDM/OFDMA Overview Channel Index State lin Digital Att Digital Att BW (sc's*fft) Report Power Report Power1_6 FFT Size 0 DISABLED 0.5000 0.0000 0.0000 -inf -1.0000 4K 1 DISABLED 0.5000 0.0000 0.0000 -inf -1.0000 4K I have initated a ticket with Rogers, but looking for some real advice not the comfort of their chat bot.

[Internet] Is 50mb upload still a thing?

I've got Ignite Gigabit internet; and am in a heavily fibre-laid area. My building has three other providers, all running on Fibre. Naturally; i'm drawn to their higher upload speeds which i've discovered on further research. I've seen through some online web browsing that there are some customers eligible for a higher upload speed with the Ignite Gigabit service. Is this a myth? Or is this something that could potentially be looked into for me? Just looking for some feedback from anyone who might know.

[Internet] Why Does Uploading at 1/5th my max upload speed (5mbps/30mbps)..

...absolutely tank my internet speed. Screenshot of ping to www.google.ca: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/4hve822pcqpv64a/explorer_2018-03-15_22-09-50.png Right now I'm sitting on my desktop not downloading anything but uploading files to Dropbox at ~5mbps out of my alleged 30mbps upload, and regular web browsing (facebook, email, twitter) grinds to a halt? Info: I'm running a CAT 6 directly to my rogers gigabit modem, I have the 1000down 30 up plan and I'm the only person who uses this line. Any ideas? I tried disabling IPv6 to see if it helped the issue but it did not.

[Internet] Telus LTE 20x Faster than Rogers Fixed Broadband Internet

I did the following test (same location, same time, same device) 1) Used my iPhone on Wifi (over Rogers Broadband 75u service) - Speedtest.net gives me 100Mb/s down - Fast.com (Netflix) gives me 20-40Mb/s - Speedof.me test I get 2-5Mb/s 2) I turn off Wifi on my iPhone and switch to Telus LTE (in a dense urban environment during busy hours) - Speedtest.net gives me around 100Mb/s - Fast.com (Netflix) gives me around 100 Mb/s - Speedof.me gives me 50 Mb/s We all know Speedtest is hosted by Rogers, and probably prioritized to always be fast. Netflix likely has a CDN in the Rogers Network or nearby peering point, so also fast, but surprising that Telus LTE is double the speed. But what is really surprising is that Speedof.me which is supposed to simulate regular web surfing performance, is 10-20x faster on Telus LTE. I did this test after I noticed that certain websites (particularly software updates from smaller sites) were surprisingly slow. Also I repeated the test on Rogers with a Mac connected over Ethernet, and same results, so it's not the Wifi. Is Rogers selectively throttling certain sites? Or is there simply a bottleneck somewhere? I would expect others should be able to replicate this test.

[Internet] Slow Download with Google Play Apps on Android?

Anyone else notice that downloading Apps from the Playstore on Android takes forever on Android (sometimes as slow as 100kb/sec)? I've tried multiple phones and my other house which also has Rogers; still slow. Anyone else have this issue? I'm on the 1000 down 30 up plan.

[TV] Signal problems on one TV

Hi All, We recently switched back to Rogers. The house we are renting has two lines coming into the house - one feeding the cable modem, home phone and 1 4K tv on the main floor and one line feeding two HD boxes upstairs. We seem to be having problems with the line feeding the two TVs upstairs. The line feeding the TVs upstairs comes in through the basement and runs to a closet upstairs where there is a 2-way splitter that splits the feed to the two TVs. The SNR level on one of the TVs hovers between 28-30 on channels in the 189MHz frequency. This has been causing us to lose channels, pixelation etc. The second TV off this splitter has an SNR of 35-36 on the same channels and we never have a problem. I've replaced the splitter, replaced the coax feeding the TV with the low SNR and nothing seems to be working. Power levels on the affected channels are -5 on the TV with problems and -3db on the TV without. SNR on the rest of the channels are fine, so it seems to only be affecting channels in this lower frequency. We've even replaced the set top box itself. Any suggestions? We've had a tech visit the house. The channels worked for a few days but have been going in and out since. Thanks in advance!

[Internet] WoodyNet Peering

I know that this isn't probably the best place to talk about such network related questions, though I don't know who to bring this up with. Hopefully someone here (possibly from Rogers) can route this message to the right people. I have noticed that Rogers is not peering with WoodyNet AS42 (PCH). Both are present at the TorIX (Toronto Internet Exchange), and WoodyNet has an open peering policy. https://www.pch.net/about/peering WoodyNet is responsible for running the largest anycasted DNS network, including some root servers. They are constantly looking to peer with other network providers to minimize latency and optimize routing for DNS related activity. More recently, PCH plus a few others launched Quad9 (https://www.quad9.net/faq/), a DNS service that provides additional security for internet connected devices. The anycasted service is hosted on the WoodyNet network, but due to the lack of peering, the connection from Rogers will terminate in Ashburn, VA. 5 9039-cgw01.wlfdle.rmgt.net.rogers.com (209.148.227.137) 20.379 ms 18.749 ms 14.469 ms 6 64.71.241.110 (64.71.241.110) 30.272 ms 39.730 ms 24.743 ms 7 be812.ccr41.iad02.atlas.cogentco.com (154.54.11.217) 41.413 ms 39.133 ms 35.812 ms 8 ae-58.r06.asbnva02.us.bb.gin.ntt.net (129.250.8.121) 42.858 ms 39.068 ms 39.979 ms 9 ae-1.a03.asbnva02.us.bb.gin.ntt.net (129.250.5.214) 34.631 ms 39.487 ms 39.234 ms10 xe-0-0-28-2.a03.asbnva02.us.ce.gin.ntt.net (168.143.105.70) 21.472 ms 34.817 ms 34.120 ms11 dns.quad9.net (9.9.9.9) 43.631 ms 50.128 ms 34.540 ms Although latency is still very much acceptable, the connection has to travel over more hops and over two tier-one carriers to terminate in Virgina, even though a local instance is available in Toronto. My question is this: considering that WoodyNet has an open peering policy, and the fact that they host multiple DNS related services (including root servers, authoritative and recursive resolvers), would Rogers be able to connect with WoodyNet?

I just got offered 75 a month for Ignite 500 gbps and 30 u/l+modem(for 85 I can get it 1 gbps)+ unlimited bandwidth +TV select (100 channels) + gta local only home phone+free installation. No contract. Seems Rogers is competitive with Bell who just upgraded my area to Fibre. Historically I've never used Rogers for anything other than internet and mobile phone) What say u all. I'm thinking it's a go, presently on the 250dl/20 ul UL bandwidth for 92.00

I have the 4582 and a network of the desktop and a Samsung TV. Smart View is the Samsung app for streaming from the pc to the tv and playing files on the TV which are in a shared folder on the pc. Problem is that the app will lose recognition of the tv after some period on non use, say several hours. Only a modem reboot --pulling the plug-- allows the app to find the tv again. Since I am condemned to reboot hell I'm looking for an easier way than pulling the power out. What about the reset button on the front ? Is that the same as a reboot ?

rogers messed up my internet connection?

I live with a roomate and I had my own cable internet for a year with another isp start.ca, one day I came home to find that my roomate had switched from bell to direct tv + rogers internet and that the rogers tech had taken my cable wire and put it into a splitter between 2 modems. So the 1 wire for internet is being split between my modem and my roomates modem. As a result my net has become very unstable. I've tried contacting my isp countless times but they tell me that my modem levels are fine so they can't send a tech out because of rogers policy. At this point I don't really know what to do, am I forced to get a new isp now?

How do these signal levels look? I can't complain about my average speed but it seems its very "bursty". My network topology is CODA in bridge mode to R7000 then I also run CAT6 to an old WDR3700 running as a repeater running seperate wifi networks. Initially when I tested I got the following: 262 21.87 20 C A+ A Cable Rogers Hi-Speed 16 / 16 Then after I upgraded the FW on the R7000 from an ancient 1.02.xxxx version to current 1.09.xxxx I now get: 469.4 21.81 20 C B B Cable Rogers Hi-Speed 16 / 16 Which is fairly close to my 500u package max... but the download tends to flucate more. as shown in the quality score difference. During the tests there were dips to close to 300mbps... Is it just the nature of DOCSIS 3.1? I am coming from a 100u package with a DOCSIS 3.0 CGN3ACMSR modem so I actually got over my 100u package on average. usually about 130 or so... Volte question

Hi, I have an unlocked phone with a business SIM card. The phone was not bought from Rogers. I'm not in control of the account and cannot contact Rogers support on my own I believe. My phone connects to LTE just fine, on paper it says Volte is supported as well, and in the Android options, Volte is enabled. Yet, when I make a phone call, it falls back to 3g all the time. Any idea why this would happen? Is Volte open to all phones that support it or only phones they put on some kind of white list? Thanks

Is it ok to block Rogers 888 phone number?

I'm on Start in London, on cable, so I know I'm using part of Rogers last-mile infrastructure. I have no other services on cable or cell, so I am not technically a Rogers customer. I got a call today from 8887643771 (Caller ID said Rogers) and I didn't answer it - let it go to voicemail (but there was no message left). I now intend to block that number, but before I do - I just want to know if I'm ever going to get a call from that number if I ever open a technical / service ticket with Start regarding say a noisy cable drop and Rogers wants to roll a truck and phone me about it.

Anyone know what modems they are going to use with the IPTV ?

Does anyone know what modems Rogers is going to use with their IPTV service that is supposed to launch this year?
