[Internet] Rogers modem/router rebooting on wan scans - by design?

$

0
Howdy All; A company doing "security audit" is trying to scan our Rogers modem/router(s) from the wan side. They are telling me their scan(s) never finish because Rogers modem/router(s) reboot. Anybody has run into the problem and found the root of it? Such as; That is by design, Rogers modem/routers reboot when a wan scan is detected. Not by design, but a (rare) positive benefit of not-so-perfect firmware. "Rogers Mothership" monitors customer IP-s traffic !!! "Rogers Mothership" reboots modems/routers when a wan scan is detected !! If so, does Rogers allow for disabling this - when asked? Will I spend my vacation finding the tech that can do it - at Rogers side? Will I get flagged as a hacker and get arrested, shortly after I start asking Rogers? We have two Rogers cable modems on Rogers Business Accounts. One is a Cisco DCP3825, on a 60/10 service. One is a Hitron, on a 1gbit/50 service. Any and all words of wisdom are welcome, Albin.

[TV] Do I need to replace my old cables?

My wife had a channel problem on the weekend. She was getting all channels except 46. Monday she called and was told there was a signal problem and a tech (contractor) would be dispatched for Tuesday. The tech looked at some of my connections, plus others Rogers had done, and said we likely had signal loss. He then explained part of our problem was our old copper shielded cable which runs through the entire house. He suggested in at least one place it needed to be replaced. A quick Google seems to indicate there can be signal issue with single shielded cable and there is now double shielded cables. However, I find it hard to believe Rogers would be upgrading it's infrastructure knowing the amount of traditional analog cable is already in homes. Interesting result. When he was done making sure all our connections were 'clean' we had pixelation on both the Digitial PVR and a older TV with a Digital Adapter box on it. He said his tests showed the problem was at the box and he put in a call. The problem cleared up later. So my question is, have change by Rogers made the quality of poor connections more prevalent and is there an expectation the homes will need to upgrade to a double shielded cable? Thanks

[Internet] Have you switched from Bell?

Hi, I just wanted to check if anyone has switched from Bell to Rogers. Currently, I have Bell 1Gbps. Although it varies, the advertised speeds are 1Gbps download and up to 940 Mbps upload. I do get pretty high upload. Rogers is offering 1Gbps download but it says on 30 Mbps upload. The Rogers rep continues to say they use Bell Fiber and it's FTTH and not Cable. I'm not too sure about that. Is rogers supposed to be better or equivalent to Bell? I thought Bell Fiber is miles ahead of Rogers but wanted some thoughts as well.

[Internet] Is my internet signal strength/SNR good?

Hi, All Just wondering if my internet signal strength/SNR is good or not for both downstream and upstream?, I felt that the upstream ones were a little higher. Has Rogers Hired the Air Duct Cleaner Call Centres?

We've been receiving daily, and sometimes more than once a day, calls from Rogers Marketers offering a great offer. They have gotten as bad as the call from the Air Duct Cleaners. We do have Rogers Cable TV services but nothing else. Doesn't matter that we tell them we are not interested. It's like there are multiple campaigns or we're not removed from the queue when we are told we are not interested. Very frustrating for my wife who has been sick in bed for the last few days. Last night, I 'chatted' to an agent and got them to flag my account form do-not-call for marketing. They said it can take 10 days to take affect. Here's hoping

[TV] Re: Just got Rogers Select TV Package/HD Nex box

So against my better judgement, finally pulled the trigger on calling Loyalty & switching from Basic Cable with the DTA adapter to; Rogers Select channel package with an HD/Nex box. What I am *trying* to find or asking assistance in is a brief channel line up/listing that includes: *Which* channels are in the Select package AND the channel #'s(preferably for London, ON) that coincide with those channels. So far I've found: https://www.rogers.com/cms/rogers/page-specific/tv/channels/pdf/Channel-List-ON-ALL-EN_NTV.pdf http://channelguides.ca/rogers.php?Location=London&Package=Starter&Type=HD So the first is good but does not have the Channel #'s, the 2nd link...I am NOT confident it is up to date. So any positive/helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated in this regard. Please & thanks!

New Roger's install

A month ago I cancelled my Roger's internet but I was given a decent offer to come back. I mainly left because of that horrible Coda modem. What are the chances the tech will install the older advanced modem if I ask him for one? My package is the 500u .

[Internet] Streaming on twitch

Been streaming on twitch for a while but can't keep it up consistently due to Rogers "30mb" upload. Have the gigabit package. On CODA modem with 35T1. Have switched modem, bought a new router. Called in tech support multiple times, they always come and just do speed tests and leave. Speeds sometime show fine but it's never consistent. Might go up to 30mb upload and drop down to 1-5mb upload. Had a senior tech on the case and was told he's tracking down the issue, that was around 2 months ago. Never had a response after that. Been messaging them on twitter constantly and calling. It's always the same thing, unplug the router so we can test your modem. Have tried Start.ca and it's still the same thing. It was fine for 2-3 weeks and by the end of the first month same issues started to show up, tried to get it fixed but no luck so I back to Rogers cause the download was slow with Start.ca. Have attached some speedtests results even tho it won't make a difference. A stream test when it lags and on some days when I can do 8+ hrs stream without any issues. I wanna know what are my options other than moving to a place with better internet. Just can't quit doing this :(

Ignite TV and upload-challenged Rogers

I've noticed upload speeds are not consistent recently on my gigabit service. What should be 30 mbps is often 20 or less. Could this be related to the upload requirements of Ignite TV that saves PVR videos to the Cloud? I know that the Nextbox PVR is constantly recording so that you can rewind at any time. If Ignite TV has that feature, on top of regular PVRing, that would require quite a bit of upload bandwidth I would imagine.

Anyone else getting (many) calls about amazing offers?

I keep getting calls from Rogers about an amazing 'pay $6 more and you will get 500Mbit, home phone and a digital cable box' offer. I only have their cable internet package (150) - we cut the cord many years ago. These calls come from numbers without caller id. The last one was from (647) 430-3382. They usually tell me that this is an 'over the phone offer only' and that I can simply say yes to make it happen. Every time I ask them to send me an email with the offer so that I can see it in detail and look at the fine print. They are able to tell me my email address, so it seems they are looking at a Rogers customer database. I did get an email once a few months ago but it did not have a lot of info. No fine print, no details. These deals sound Too Good To Be True. Are these scams? I am assuming that these offers are limited time and that my bill will double once the initial discount period expires. There are many stories like that. Wasn't Rogers taken to court for that practice some time ago?

[Internet] Public IP assignment seems to be effectively static, insight?

It seems that my IPv4 and IPv6 never change on residential ignite internet. I have a router that is plugged into the modem, and whenever I reboot the router or router + modem, it seems like I keep getting the same IPs. Does anyone know what's the strategy behind it? Are IPs assigned depending on the modem's MAC or is it per account? I understand that it's dynamic IPs in theory, but they seem to be static in practice so I'd like to know if I can consider my IPs to be static for configuring firewalls etc.

[Internet] Ping Spikes and Inconsistent Speeds

For the past week, I've been getting ping spikes in SC2 and sometimes even difficulty streaming Twitch or YouTube in 1080P. I thought my ASUS RT-N66U is going bad so I'm considering replacing it, but I decided to bypass the modem just now to do some testing and here are one of my results: https://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/37606800 Now during the test, I noticed the buffer bloat would sometimes spike up to +200ms or even more before dropping down to a reasonable +5ms or +20ms level. I'm on the Rogers Gigabit service and haven't experienced any issues since I left Teksavvy for Rogers sometime last year. The modem stats look fine too. Signal strength and signal-to-noise ratio are all within the acceptable regions of 5 to 7dBmV and 35 to 38dB respectively at the moment.

Roger's fiber optic line features

Hi! We - me and my husband - are immigrants and newcomers in Canada. We're working remotely. By this reason first of all looking to high quality line. We've rented apartment from 1th september. It's possible to connect there to Rogers and to one another fiber optics line. So, we want to choose. What can we expect from the list of the following features: 1) No packet loss at all! 2) stable jitter (we're use VoIP often, so, if ping time very different in each second, then VoIP doesn't work properly) 3) Public IP address (it can be dynamic, not static) 4) no TCP and UDP port filtration at all in this address (incomming and outcomming), no ICMP restrictions. 5) upload speed enough good - So, I'm angry to modern ISP. We're live in the cloud paradigm, simple users, not IT engineers, every day upload a lot of gigabytes in the clouds/SaaS (photo/videos). What happen with industry? I want to have wide upload link! 6) I want to use my own hardware with public IP. Is it possible to not use Roger's hardware, or use it in the Bridge mode (preferred option) 7) I don't need very wide download link. I think, ~55-80 Mb/s(7-8 MB/s) is enough good. I want to save money in this feature. ?

Hi... Does anyone know how to get Rogers to stop sending me those promotes in the mail? I'm never going to use Rogers ever, in fact, this is how strongly I feel about Rogers, I will not even use Rogers if they gave me their services free. So, with that being said any way of not getting those promotes? Thanks PS And I feel this way towards Bell too.

New DOCSIS 3.1 xb6 modem still in 3.0 mode?

Noticed in the management interface, WAN section, it is using 32 channels, 6Mhz wide, 256 qam modulation. That is DOCSIS 3.0. If you look on the Comcast forums you can see that if a channel was using 3.1 it would say "other" for modulation. I can order the 1.G plan but with this channel bonding, there is only 1.2 G of capacity to share with all the other houses in my node with 32 channels available. Wondering if I should switch to Bell for 1G or wait for Rogers to actually implement 3.1.

Ignite TV Launch Question

I'm with Acanac internet but I'm looking for an IPTV provider. I'm a cord cutter getting tired of dealing with Kodi addons or other services like the late SetTV going down and I just seen on CityTV news that Rogers has just launched Ignite IPTV. Even though I'm not a Rogers customer can I subscribe to this service? I'm having a hard time finding info on the rogers website only bundles with the service which I don't want. And what would be the standalone prices if non rogers customers can subscribe? Thanks,

[Internet] Rogers dead download 0mbps, after reboot only works for 10 min

$

Hi, I am posting it here to see if anyone has ever solved a similar problem. My location: Scarborough M1S. I have had rogers for years. It worked well until three weeks ago, my internet goes down a lot. It is almost unusable. The last 5 speed test results are: 0.1/down 71/up (mbps) 377/down 42/up 474/down 78/up 190/down 34/up 0.01/down 31/up (within 10 minutes, computer connected to router(modem) with cat5e cable directly.) The download is just dead every a few while. Could be 2 sec or 10 min, it is just randomly that I have no internet connection. Factory reset, reboot the modem many times. It shoots up to 900Mbps/down sometimes right after the modem reboots, then went bad in a while. The funny thing is, when speed test failed, Ping & MTR works just fine. While I browse on computer, 80% of the time pages are blank with Chrome loading icon spinning. It loads or fails after a while. 20% of the time page loads instantly. Youtube is on and off, it is good when it transfers; or just stuck loading. Tried SSH tunneling and VPN to other place, it does not improve anything. Had two technician visits this week. They replaced some connectors outside the house, and while they were here, Internet worked for 20 min. After they left, later in the afternoon the Internet connection start to fail again. Checking the modem stats, it appears that dBms gets higher. But it does not fix the dead download. I called rogers to have the 3rd technician visit. But I don't think he will do anything different from the last two guys. Rogers ignite gigabit internet, CODA 4582u.
